LiveMocha.com
Ok...so those who have talked to me in the last few days probably are sick of hearing about this, but I am just crazy about a new site I found recently.... check it out if you want to. I stumbled across it while doing research for a research site I'm a member of. LiveMocha a site that enables you to learn another language for free!!! It shows you flashcards, then you hear it, say it, write it.... it's really quite fun! You can learn Italian (like me) or German, French, Spanish, Chinese....
Try it out, and let me know what YOU think!!! I'm really enjoying it.

P& G Raising Prices
Have you heard P& G is raising it's prices by 16% because they need to offset "high commodities prices"??? A lot of people are starting to stock up on things such as cereal, etc....
What are your thoughts on this?

Comparing Costco/ Sam's vs shopping at CVS/ Walgreens
If you think like me, and apparently many of you do because of what you tell me, you have wondered about shopping in Bulk at Costco/ Sam's Bj's etc... and if it really does save you money. I must admit, I had wondered about it alot. Having 5 kids means you NEED to buy things in bulk because you just can't get by with 1 gallon of milk each week - that one gallon is gone by the morning! But every time we walked out of Sam's, I felt we had just handed over half our paycheck! (Ouch!) Since we have been "doing the couponing thing" we have noticed our grocery expenses drop quite a bit. I had always thought buying in bulk was the way to go, but it has actually saved us a ton by buying smaller bottles and using coupons. I ran across a blog today where (Common sense with Money) had actually made comparisons (dollar wise).... check it out if you would like (click the title to go to her blog and read for yourself.)Interesting.

Want a giggle?
Ok...ran across this guy's blog today and I had to laugh. I have to admit, I always enjoy the men's side of the story when it comes to couponing.... they always bring such a funny spin to it. I know MY husband relates... we really laughed hard together over the blog from last week's husband of a coupon queen (here: http://frugalinvirginia.blogspot.com/2008/08/i-married-couponaholic-5-ways-life-has.html ). So, here's another one to give you a chuckle.... enjoy!

Diapers at Walgreens
Ok - so the place to be for diapers this week is Walgreens! Huggies = $9.50 per jumbo pack and you get $2 in register rewards! If you have a coupon from that Walgreens coloring book ($1) , use that combined with a manufacturer coupon and you are good to go! I have also read on other blogs that some Walgreens are showing diapers on clearance at their stores. (Although I haven't seen that in the local area yet - if you do, please let me know.)

Have you taken the Cheerios challenge?
http://www.cheerios.com/promotions/challenge/ if you go here and sign up, they will send you emails to print coupons for cheerios. Don't forget to hit 'back" so you get them twice!
Nature Made vitamins (if you buy those - they were on sale at Walgreens last week) has codes on the sides of the package. They have a rewards program for buying thier products when you enter the codes. There are printable coupons on the site when you register as well.
http://www.naturemade.com/ try it.
By the way - Get to know your local store clerks. This last Friday I was just planning to do a stop in and out kind of thing at Walgreens. I got to talking to one of the store clerks who works there and has been seeing me frequent the store. She ended up giving me the coming week's store ad, September's Easy Saver Catalog and informed me of some special upcoming deals! I walked out of there with a bag full of samples, too.... pays to get to know the clerks!!!!
Have you tried AdPerk yet? http://www.adperk.com/
This is a site where you watch some commercials (between 10-20 commericals each lasting about a minute or two) and enter the little codes at the end. In return, you get gift cards or magazine subscriptions! I often use the time to clip coupons - kill two birds with one stone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Whenever I go to the store, I am consistently asked a series of questions by women who pass by me and notice my coupon binder. So, I thought it might be a good idea to list some questions and the answers I am most frequently asked. (Please remember, I am not nearly as good at this yet as some are, as I am still learning just like you!)
Q: How do you get so many coupons?
A: Online (at the sites listed at the left) and in the Sunday paper. If the paper has really good coupons, I often buy a few papers. Sometimes I find them reading in other people's blogs. In magazines, too. All*You magazine had a ton of them in the August issue.
Q: How do you keep track of so many coupons?
A: It was a bear to originally get organized with my binder but after that, it's not nearly as bad as you might think! I got the baseball cards sheets at Wal-Mart for about $4 a pack and the dividers were about as expensive. I had an unused binder around home. I would strongly suggest you get a binder that 1. Has pockets inside and out and 2. Zippers up all the way around it (to save you a mental breakdown when you drop it) and 3. Has your name written on it/ in it (for days when you leave it behind at some store.) Now that I am more organized, I just clip the coupons (often the kids help do this), organize them into the divided groups and place them in the baseball card sheets. It takes me about an hour to clip them and put them in the sleeves each week. An hours worth of time, though, saves us a few hundred each week at the store.
Q: How did you get started doing this?
A: A friend took me with her one day to Target and Wal-Mart and showed me how you can save money by printing off internet coupons and gave me the names of a few great sites. After going with her that once, I was hooked!!! Brooke, you rock!
Q: How much time does it take you each week? Doesn't it take a lot of time?
A: Well, yes, it can. It takes me a good hour to clip the coupons and another to organize and put them in the binder. It also takes me time (a little over an hour or so) to go through the ads in the paper and list all the places I want to "hit" each week, as well as the deals I hope to find (according to the ads and coupons I have) each week. But, I do this because I have found our family's food budget has been cut in half, while the quality of products we have been buying and the amount has greatly increased. For instance, we never bought anything name brand, we were always running out of things like shampoo and toothpaste (5 kids...lots of teeth and hair!) Now, we have a stockpile of those things because I bought them on sales with coupons and paid hardly anything for them!!!
Q: Do you run all over town for deals? Doesn't that seem like a waste of gas? How can that save you money?
A: Well, no. I try to plan my routes accordingly. Most stores are within a 15 to 20 minutes radius of my house. So, that makes it easy. I try to go to the farthest store first and work my way back home. I also try to limit the trips to once a week. That, in itself, is probably the biggest money saver.
Q: Do you really save that much money?
A: Well, although I am not as good as many out there, I have cut my family's food budget in half! So, I guess it's a work in progress but I'm happy.
Q: Don't you just get coupons for 'junk food'?
A: No, not really. I have found coupons for all kinds of things from deli meats, fish, produce, canned goods, beauty supplies, laundry soap, etc. You just have to look.
Q: Do you go to stores that 'double' coupons? Do stores still do that?
A: The only store in my area that doubles coupons is Kroger, and only to 50 cents, but it's every day. So yes, I shop there a good bit but, I shop at other stores, too, depending on the deal I find.
Q: How is your binder organized?
A: It's divided into categories. The front of my binder has a pocket that holds pens, a pad of paper and scissors. The coupons are in plastic baseball card holders. The categories are then divided into groups: Personal and Makeup, deodorants and razors, first aid and medicines, paper products, laundry and cleaning, yogurt, beverages, meat/ cheese and deli items, frozen dinners and snacks, ice cream, cereals, baking needs and snacks, pastas and rice and sauces, batteries and household items, restaurants. In the back, I place the week's store ads so I can show them to store clerks when I need to or compare a price.
I hope that clears any questions you may have had. Sometimes it's fun to have people stop me and comment about my binder (it does get some looks.) But sometimes it can be a little frustrating (when I am in a hurry and trying to shop quickly, for instance.) But I am always happy to help someone else get started or answer some questions. If you have some.... ask.

Spraywell.com
Yesterday, I was cruising the clearance racks at Target, looking for deals with coupons, when I get a phone call from my sweetie at home. "I don't know how you do it, but we got these two big boxes from UPS today..."he said. A few weeks back I had emailed Spraywell.com regarding an ad I saw in the August issue of All*You magazine. I emailed to ask if they ever sent out coupons for their cleaning products, as I had never come across any. They replied back, saying no, they didn't have any right now, but gave suggestions as to where I could find some (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) I was happy to know where to get this stuff (especially the dust mites spray since we are allergic around here.) I emailed back a thank you, and told her I would let all my friends know. She sent a return thank you, and since I was willing to tell my friends, she sent me two boxes of assorted items such as their multi surface cleaner, dust mite cleaner, and window cleaner. So...it pays to write to companies!!!! Let me know how your emails to any manufacters go. I will let you know how I like the stufSpraywell stuff!

The Big Start
Ok, so I finally did it. I started a blog about couponing. We will see how this work in progress goes as we go along this road. The plan is to post the deals I see in the local area for a while and see if I can attach coupon sites and links so we can all enjoy them together. I can use any help and advice you plan to send me, ok? I plan to look at this the way I look at life in general.... we are all in this together.... so it's best if we can help each other out. Although I see couponing as a game (how much stuff can I walk out of the store with by using the least amount of money out of my pocket!) And I seem to collect coupons like they will be extinct in the near future. My family laughs and rolls their eyes at me as we watch tv and I loudly say as we watch the ads "I have a coupon for that!" They have come to expect the UPS boxes full of samples, the free cereal bowls and Uncle Ben's rice, the "but it was free" mentality when trying something new. And for that, I am grateful. So, help me out so I can try to help you out, ok? Thanks! And all this because of one couponing trip with some friends! Who knew?! But thanks, Brooke. I owe you one.
