All*You and new happenings

The new All*You is on the shelves. It seems to me the price keeps rising a bit every month...does it seem that way to you, as well? I also found although there were some good coupons in there, there weren't quite as many - which was disappointing. Anyway - It's out, and on the Wal-Mart shelves. Go pick up your copy.

Lately, (if you hadn't noticed) I have found that due to time constraints and hopes of keeping what's left of my little bit of sanity, I am going to have to scale down in several areas of my life. So.... here's the thing. I am cutting down on "the list". I do still plan to post it, but I am going to minimize it a good bit. If you hadn't noticed, I didn't even have a moment to post last week's list. (I am sorry about that.) I have found that although I still can coupon, still try to find deals, still cringe at the thought of paying full price for anything these days... it's hard to find the time I need to accomplish organizing it all, and it's taking alot of time away from the hubs and my kids. They all do help, and I am very grateful for that. It's time together. But, I find I need to scale down in a lot of areas of my life right now. So, I am asking for your help as well. If you find good deals, please, please, please email me and let me know so I can share it! Thank you for being such good friends, and for your words of encouragement, love and support. It means more to me than you know!

I will post the list shortly.

Adjusting to working outside the home

This 'mom working full time' I have to admit, is a huge new adjustment for our family. It has been an adjustment for the kids (all 5) to pitch in and do their part with chores and such, as well as for my DH to have to pick up more of the slack of me not being around so much. Our house has also taken on an adjustment of it's own, as well.... it's a constant mess anymore. (Not that I have ever been the super clean type momma, but there are limits to acceptable levels of dirt, you know?) Lately, I have learned an all new respect for those working moms out there, now being one of the ranks. Don't misunderstand me,I have always had a respect for them anyway, but this gives new meaning to me. It's an incredible challenge to try to get everyone out the door in the morning, lunches in hand and homework at the ready. (The more accurate description would have to be "in something that won't have social services clammering to my door to ask why my children's faces are dirty and they have 3 twinkies, 2 grapes and a lollipop from Halloween for their lunch and their homework still sitting on the kitchen counter".) I have a new respect for those moms who can still find time to get a shower, manage to still coupon, get nutritious dinners on the table and still have a small shred of sanity. Not to mention those moms who also hold down their jobs at church!
I won't even get into the single mom thing. (Been there, but not as a working mom full time outside the home as well.... those moms deserve a medal of honor and comondation from the president! Although, they would probably prefer a vacation in Tahiti san the kids.....
I watched as a co-worker had to quickly leave today for a family emergency at the hospital. My heart went out to her, and it made me thankful. I know this adjustment means I have less time to read email, less time to do the things I would like to do for myself, and my family, less time with them in general. But, I am grateful that I can at least come home to them every day. I think of that as I drive home at night. I may be away from them every day for nearly all day, but I do get to see them at the end of the day, and that makes me feel very grateful.
So, even if they do have 3 twinkies in their lunch, even if the homeroom teacher must think I don't have a lick of fashion sense, even if my house looks like a tornado blew through it months ago and FEMA refused to help.... even if my DH makes Hamburger Helper for dinner becuase we have all of 3 minutes to eat before dashing out to night school and cub scouts.... it's mine.
It'll give the kids something to discuss in therapy when they are older. Right?

And in the "Samples from Wal-Mart" category...... I have to admit, although I am not the world's largest fan of the store (although I do get some great deals there sometimes), I really like the samples from Wal-Mart wire. They always have come pretty quickly, and without a lot of hoopla and junk attached. Today in the mail, for example, I got a bunch of samples...several from Wal-Mart Wire. Snuggle, Crest (a bunch of different flavors of it), etc.... fun to get interesting mail!

Ok, I am NOT a coffee drinker (against my personal beliefs) but a lot of you are (so you tell me), if you are here is a coupon for Free Dunkin Donuts Coffee: http://www.dunkinathome.com/index.php

Sign up here for a coupon for a DelMonte dish (Fresh grapefruit/ or other fruit in a bowl with juice in the grocer produce section). I had a coupon for one of these last week, and used it on one at Kroger last Friday. (Grapefruit fan). They were really pretty good! Although this is a little expensive for me normally, with the coupon and the sale it was on, it ended up being the same price as buying the grapefruit individually anyway! The List

First off - I am indeed sorry it has been since Saturday since I posted. It has been an incredibly busy week for our family, and I have not had even a moment to check email, blog or go on the computer at all! (I am dreading getting over to check on my email, last time I went for just a few days without checking them I had over 300 to go through!) I am thinking with the change in job, the holidays and life in general, I won't be able to post as often as I was (if there were just three or four more hours in a day it might be different!) But until I can find my niche, I think I am going to have to tone it down to just twice a week or so. So, please bear with me! I am still here.... just trying to find some time to breathe these days!

Here's the list for this week - (Once again, I am sorry it is so late in being posted.) As always, it may change a bit as I (hopefully) continue to add coupon matches, or find in store deals. I do not list coupons you cannot also find (like coupons that have been mailed to me, or coupons that I found on store packaging - unless I know you can get them, too.)

What can you get for $.34 these days?

Would you like to see what you can get for $.34 at CVS these days??? Take a look!

I bought these things in 4 transactions. Sadly, when I went I only had a $1 ECB in my wallet from the previous week. But, it was a start!!!

I bought the pumpkin first for .99, used the $1 ECB I brought with me, and got .99 in ECB's back. (I also got $10 in ECB's from the CVS advisor survey I had done a week ago. I told you about becoming one in one of my older posts...you really should sign up.) Ok, so I used that $1ECB for the lightstick, and also got another $1 ECB back, which I turned around and used to buy the bag of candy (1.29) and got $1.29 back in ECB's. Then I bought the four deodorants (I had four coupons $1/1) and the L'Oreal wipes (my fav brand) and got the cleanser for free. (I also used my $3/2 L'Oreal coupon.) I bought the Powerade in that same transaction, too ($1.69 and no coupons). I used my $10 ECB, my $8 in coupons and the total came to .04!!! That was so fun!!!

Couponing advice

Here are some of the things people commented on during the contest - I felt they were all wise comments! Thank you everyone! Keep checking back for my next contest!

Best couponing advice - when I was just starting out couponing, I would only clip coupons for items I "preferred". Then I watched the couponmom.com video and she mentioned that we shouldn't be BRAND LOYAL because you never know which item will end up free when combined with a sale!

"Always check for coupons at the entrance of every store."

"Check the grocery stores in your area to see if they offer double or triple coupon days."

"Save every coupon--you never know what could end up making you money! I made $18.51 on Glade items that I never would've purchased otherwise."

"Don't use a coupon just cause it is about to expire. Another one will come around and only use it with a sale or good deal."

"If you don't need the product, unless the coupon is for a free item, you are not saving any money." (I especially liked that one!)

Winners of the CVS Coupon contest!

What fun - I really enjoyed hearing the comments everyone left either on here or by email! Thank you all for participating! Two winners have been chosen by random.org, and I am notifying them by email as well as posting them here:

Caprice and Monica

Congratulations!

Kmart double coupon days

I have gotten several emails and friends advising me of Kmart doubling coupons for a short time.
Merrilee said: "Just FYI, from now until Oct 5, Kmart is having double coupon days where they will double any coupon up to $2 in value. Nestle bagged halloween candy is on sale 2 bags for $4. I used my $1 off coupon, which doubled to $2 and since I had 2 coupons, I got 2 bags for FREE! Yippee! Also, there is a coupon for $1 off Kellogg's Smart Start Strawberry Oat Bites cereal. I used that at Kmart, which doubled to $2 off. The cereal was originally $3.99. I paid $1.99 out of pocket (using the coupon) and will fill out the rebate form at http://www.smartstart.com/swf/Mail-In_Rebate_Offer.pdf for a free box. Does this mean I just made $2.00??? :)
Thanks, Merrilee!

Some money saving advice for prescriptions

In the mail today, along with my free Kashi cookie (which, btw, I didn't care for - yuck), I got a letter from my insurance company. They were advising us as to how to save some money at the drug store. They suggested that when we ask the doctor for a prescripton refill, to see if he would be willing to make the dosage larger. For example, if a prescription we take is 10 milligrams, to ask if he would be willing to double it to 20 milligrams (the same amount of pills - say a one month supply), and once that prescription is filled, to simply cut the pill in half. Voila! 2 months worth of prescription for 1 month's price at the drug store. Although I was skeptical, they also sent a letter, saying this would be paid for, and was acceptable to them as an insurance company, and that we could take that with us to the doctor and pharmacy. Interesting! So, before you run off to CVS to do this, check with your insurance carrier. (As a note - the insurance campany that sent us this letter is from Anthem Blue Cross.)

Here is a free sample from Alterna Hair Care: http://www.alternahaircare.com/allure/

I was reading on another blog about how people sometimes are given a hard time by clerks about their Internet Printable coupons (particularly SmartSource) when they go to the store. Here is a good letter to keep with you in your coupon organizer, in case such a thing should happen to you. (I have been fairly lucky so far, and have had very few run-ins with clerks to date, however, I am keeping a copy of this one, just in case. You never know.) That letter is here: http://coupons.smartsource.com/mnmedia/BottomNavs/LettertoRetailer.pdf

For those of you with a wee one in diapers, you may want to check out what Adventures of Frugal Girl has to say about Pampers Gifts to Grow Rewards Program - she rated it with Pros and Cons (something I always find useful) here: http://adventuresoffrugalgirl.blogspot.com/2008/09/program-review-pampers-gifts-to-grow.html

Go here to get some free MP3 downloads of childrens books for your MP3! It's to support RIF, and children's literature. Go here and scroll down to the bottom to RIF and click. You will be directed to the free downloads. Very cool. http://kids.audible.com/adkd/site/k/homepageGuest.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0973211212.1222916767@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccckadeffjedggfcefecekjdffidfmi.0

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and therefore I am putting in my annual plug for "Please go get your mammogram!" Although this is a blog dedicated to coupons/ saving money/ shopping, this one issue is very near and dear to my heart.
My mother had breast cancer not so long ago and the things I saw her have to endure (chemo/ radiation/ losing her hair, feeling awful...) I wouldn't wish anyone to have to see their mother (or anyone else they love) have to endure. Although this only added to my already immense respect, admiration and love for my mother and all of her wonderful qualities (she's my hero), it was difficult to see her have to go through all that. I feel extremely blessed that she not only survived it, and is stronger because of her experiences, but is still here to be one of my very best friends. Please....spare those who love you as well as spare yourself, go get checked...it doesn't take long to do, and it can save your life!!!! Tell those around you to go get theirs, too!

Become a member of Viva Towels Divas and $5 will be donated in your name to breast cancer research. Here's thelink:

Keeping spending low

All*You Magazine's October issue is out at Wal-Mart now to mixed couponer reviews, apparently due to the coupons this month being a little more sparse than last month. I love the mag, myself. In this month's issue (the cover has cupcakes with candy spiders on it) they give a few tips to save money. (Check page 145.) They suggest: giving yourself an "allowance" by giving yourself a set limit you can spend each week and when you stay under that, reward yourself a bit. Carrying minimal amounts of cash, so you aren't tempted to buy on impulse. Using gift cards for necessities, instead of cash if you prefer, so that impulse buys will also be kept low. Ditching your credit card because they lead to overspending and large fees. Dave Ramsey (the financial guru so many of us like) suggests using cash for purchases because actually seeing it leave your hands makes it harder to spend. My personal suggestion is to plan trips to the store wisely, having a list and knowing pretty exactly what you are shopping for. Money Saving Mom (Crystal) also suggested that you limit your shopping trips to once a week as it cuts down on spending. I have found that to be valuable advice. Let me know your saving strategies! We can always use tips on this! Happy saving!

Olay for you/ Sally

If you have ever gone to the drug store (during an ECB deal perhaps) and looked at all the skin care products, it can be a bit overwhelming (it was for me.) I have used many different kinds/ brands of products over the last several years... Olay has a site where you can see which of their specific products is right for your skin (tailored to individuals) and when their little presentation is finished, they ask you if they can add you to their mailing list for product samples and coupons. If you like Olay stuff, it's worth the 2-3 minutes to make sure you are getting the right products for your skin.

Sally Hansen's site has a quiz you can take (15 second thing about your likes/ dislikes) and when you enter your email address, they will send you some samples/ coupons. (Sally stuff is often an ECB deal product and their coupons often seem to have long expiration dates! LOVE those kinds of coupons, don't you?) Go here: http://www.haveuseensally.com/

The name Coupon Babe

Recently in telling a friend about my blog address - I advised her to "just Google it". Happily, in following my own advice, just for kicks, I found many of my posts from my blog and I was excited that I found it so easily! However, I also found some posts to another blog (someone elses' blog) , describing their unhappiness with dealings with someone else who also had the name "couponbabe". These dealing apparently (from what I could gather) occurred sometime in the last year around November 2007. My own couponing obsession didn't start until July of 2008, so I was very happy these things that were being said were definately not directed at my blog or at me personally, however it did make me feel that a clarification on my blog was necessary, in case there were others who unfortunately also ran across this. Please I will reiterate again, know that those comments were NOT ABOUT ME or about this blog. Had I known someone else out there had chosen the name "Couponbabe" and was doing these things, I never would have started this blog with the name "Couponbabe".
My intention with this blog, as I stated in the description, is simply to save myself and others money, and hopefully also save them some time and trouble. I do not, and never have participated in anything illegal or immoral. It is against everything I believe in.
